Working From Home - 8 Steps To Setting Your Goals And Targets
The world has become a place of goal driven and target driven people, sometimes, in my opinion to the extent where you can actually forget what you are working for. Goals and targets are used as a motivator to encourage people to strive to meet their targets and achieve their goals, often for personal or business achievement and frequently to the detriment of good living. Life is a journey not a destination and goals and targets are set to meet other people's needs or that of the business. When working for yourself, from home, then this is where you need to define your own personal goals and targets. You have the power to set these yourself. While this is wonderful in terms of personal freedom, defining, setting and meeting your own targets and goals can be an extremely difficult if not frustrating task in itself.
With careful planning and some quite initial thought at the outset setting your goals can be an exciting and inspiring experience. Achieving them does require some single mindedness, determination and fortitude. Stepping out on the path to reach your goals is easy. Maintaining the momentum and direction needs some work!
- Personal planning- where do you want to be? Over the years every January I have religiously written down at the things I want to personally accomplish that year. This has often been guided or moulded by my current situation, career etc. I recommend that you do this at the outset of a new venture. Set out you own personal desires of what you want and where you want to be. Write them down and keep them handy during the year! Doing this places your desires into your subconscious and it always amazes me how many goals I tick off at the end of the year having accomplished them, often with out realising it! But do be specific!
- Business Planning- what is it you are doing? If you are working for yourself then this process in inextricably linked to that above, because to achieve your desires, you need a method of doing it, and usually it's by means of your business. Set out your business plan with this in mind.
- Markets and products- what are you selling and to whom? This will set out how precisely you business plan with be achieved. Business is all about selling, whether it be a product and image and idea, an ideal, yourself or a lifestyle. You need to know what you are going to sell, how to get it and where to find your customers.
- Plan for 2 years- Where do you want to be in 2 years time. I recommend 2 years as a time frame which most of use can visualise and realistically plan for. 5 year is too long in my mind to usefully contemplate where you will be, it is too far ahead in the future. You personal and business plans should have this already provide a basis for this, after all now we are working out the details!
- Plan for 90 days- set out a strategy, which is a major step to achieving your 2-year plan. This will be a large chunk of meaningful achievement, but not is so much detail; for instance 'acquiring 500 customers' is a good target as it still leave room to decide how you are going to do this
- Plan for the next 30 days- What do you need to do next month to meet your 90 day strategy? To acquire our 500 customers we are going to, attend a major trade show, or have our website optimised and up and running...a big step in the direction you want to go.
- Plan for the next 7 days- Your weekly targets towards working towards your 30 day plan. Plan those major tasks, visits, meetings, calls, place orders and make time for those other tasks which have arisen and which need other work done to complete them. Plan that in too.
- Daily plans- set tasks to meet your 7 day plan, but allow for other non- work related tasks, daily changes in routine and life in general. Do this at the end of each day and first thing in the morning often once the first emails have been opened. Do not set yourself too much to do. Pace yourself and keep the longer-term targets in mind. One important tip. Once your daily workload has been established (and of course it may well change during the day) identify the most difficult/unsavoury/awkward or even the most boring task and do that first! It's called 'eating the frog" and once done you will feel better without the prospect of that task hanging over you for the rest of the day. Avoid putting it off, it will be in the back of your mind and disturb you even if you don't realise it! Do it!
Setting goals and targets may seem easy at the outset however there are some basis rules we should follow when planning what we need to achieve, I'll cover this in my next article.

How To Start Making More Money
I get approached by people all the time asking me if I have any ideas to help them start making more money. Sometimes they are looking for an opportunity to present their network marketing business and other times they just sincerely want to know what my advice would be for them. I hope this article will help answer that question and provide a solution to that common problem.
Looking around, it would appear that, in a way, we're all in the same playground together. People are having a harder time providing for their families and many are starting to look for other ways to increase their monthly income. Whether it's to get out of debt, enhance our lifestyle, or allow the spouse to stay at home with the kiddo's, we all have this one thing in common; something has got to change! If you keep doing what you have always done, you can expect to get the same results that you have always gotten.
If you were to type in a search phrase on make money (or something like that), you could expect to find all kinds of answers. Some of which would be pretty bizarre I would guess.
You might find something like:
- 10 secret steps to success or
- 100 of the world's craziest ways to make money.
No doubt you will read many good articles full of helpful information. You might even get a chuckle or two from some of the unusual information you'll find.
You'll learn what it takes to:
- Get out of debt, which, by the way, is much easier when you're making more money.
- Invest wisely, which again is much easier when you have extra money to invest.
- Know the difference between an asset and a liability, which is a great thing to know if you actually have assets.
- Other long-term planning information, which doesn't help you with your current short-term needs to make ends meet.
Depending on who you ask, you might even get answers like:
- Ask the boss for a raise.
- Put in for overtime at work, if that's even possible anymore.
- Go back to school, with the hope that you'll land a better job in a few years, Or...
- You could always get a second job. Say bye-bye to your life.
The problem with these solutions is that they might temporarily patch a problem, like a band-aid, but they aren't going to provide any real solution for ongoing steady income. My hope is that after reading this article, you will at least take a look at the tremendous opportunities there are online.
By the way, I am not offering you a network marketing opportunity or get rich quick scheme.
Okay, you say, but...
- You must not read the paper! The economy is in the toilet!
- Do you know the unemployment rate? There are NO JOBS!
- You don't know how scary it is to be so insecure in my job!
To which I respond: Yes I do, Yes, and Oh Yes I do!
I have been in the real estate industry for the past 18 years and believe me when I say I know what it's like to have times of feast and famine. I've also seen many good brokers leave the business because they fail to have a solid plan to ensure a steady stream of income.
Unfortunately, many people waste most of their time worrying about things they have no control over that they don't even see the opportunities around them. Did you know that successful people make MORE money in a down economy than an up economy? I'm not trying to discount the seriousness of the current economy. I know how hard it has been on folks over the past few years.
If you're piggy bank is getting too skinny,
You need to know...
1. What can you do NOW to start making more money!
2. Where people are going to make extra income!
3. What is the learning curve and How long it will take to start making extra income?
To which I say:Get Online, Get Online, and NOW!
Did you know that the internet economy remains to be very strong regardless of what is happening in the "normal" economy?
My solution: Find a reputable online marketing mentor and learn what people are doing on the internet to make extra money. It's not too late to start a successful online campaign regardless of what your product or service is (even if you don't currently have a business). The answer to making extra income today is found online.
A Good Mentor Will Teach You These Foundations:
1.How To Use FREE Online Marketing and SEO Techniques: Many of the very best techniques used by the pro's are absolutely FREE but unknown to most people! When done correctly, even just a few strategies could generate a cash flow very quickly.
2.How To Copycat a strategy that worked for someone else. You're not in school anymore. Copycat the techniques used by those of us who have found success online and you will experience the same results!
3.Teach You Paid Strategies. There are several online strategies that you can pay for (if you choose to), however, many people find success online without using paid sources.
4.Teach You How You Can Use viral marketing, social media, video marketing, and articles to completely bury your competition!
Today is the day for success! Today is the day to start providing better for your family! Today is the day to start making more money online!
The Question Is...Do You Have What It Takes To Succeed Online? The following attributes will help you determine if you're cut out for an exciting career online.
1. Determination. In order to start making more money you must be determined to do so. You must set a goal and be resolved not to change it until it's reached.
2. Devotion. By definition is an affection or dedication. You must be dedicated to your goal. A marriage lacking devotion will never be a success. You are, in a sense, married to your business- for better or worse.
3. Diligence. ALL successful people share this virtue. It's the ability to continue steadfast in your application of hard work. "People who are successful in any endeavor have one thing in common; they're part of the 1% who finish what they begin." Jon Courson

The Right Way To Make Cash Online
If you want to make money by selling online, the first thing you need is a product or service that is going to attract enough customers to make your business profitable.
Most people set up a business hoping that what they have to offer is something that a lot of people want. They do this with little, or in fact no research whatsoever.
If you listen to the really successful online marketers such as Alan Forrest Smith, Tom Hua or Armand Morin to name a few, they will all tell you that first you search on the internet and find out exactly what people are looking to buy. After doing this research, only then do they go and find a product or service to promote. This way they know that what they are offering is exactly what the potential buyer in their chosen niche market is looking for.
Another big mistake most online businesses make is trying to sell something that well established marketers are already selling. You have almost no chance of seriously competing with these guys.
In most cases it would be more profitable to find a smaller niche which has a good sized but not huge market. These smaller markets (sometimes referred to as sub-niches) will very often have hardly any competition and this makes it far easier for you to dominate your field.
Most of the top marketers will tell you the best way for you to find a product or service is to start by looking at your own hobbies or passions.
You are far more likely to succeed if you are spending most of your time focussing on a subject you get a lot of enjoyment from. For example, if you like playing golf how much passion and time do you think you will be wanting to put into your business if you are trying to sell a product directly relating to golf.
Whatever your passion, probably the best start point is to seek out forums specifically related to your passion. These forums are normally full of hardcore fanatics on the subject. People like this are always looking for something to buy to do with their subject.
Making money online is something that anyone can do, but some effort has to be put in (especially during the early stages). That is another reason to concentrate on the things that you have an interest or passion in. This way rather than feeling like hard work it is going to be something you look forward to doing everyday.

The Best Jobs For Work At Home Moms And Dads
Stay at home moms and dads who need some extra cash for their family's budgets often look into getting a job working at home. But with all the scams out there, they may have trouble finding which jobs are legitimate. Most people don't even know the types of at home positions there are. Here are some good choices for parents who need extra income but a flexible schedule.
Virtual Call Center
One of the most popular job opportunities for work at home parents is the virtual call center. Working for a call center from your home office is similar to working for a real one, but the hours tend to be flexible and you may get paid by the minutes you are on the phone talking instead of getting a flat hourly rate.
There are many different kinds of companies that contract at-home workers. You can find a position taking orders for infomercials, getting pledges for charities, or providing customer service for a large national company.
The requirements to get a position in a virtual call center are pretty simple. You'll need a computer with high speed internet access, a second phone line, and a phone headset. You will need a quiet environment to do this job, so plan on working at naptime, after bedtime, and while your kids are in school. Some companies are looking for people with experience, but there are many that welcome anyone.
Freelance Writing
If English was your favorite subject in school, you may have a future as a freelance writer. There are many websites out there that need content and if you have decent writing skills, a little bit of knowledge, and the willingness to research new subjects you may get a job working for them.
The web allows you to publish content even if you aren't a professional writer. A lot of blogs want to hire writers who are knowledgeable about a subject but able to write in a conversational tone. While you should use proper grammar and spelling, you don't have to worry about formal writing like you would for a school paper.
If you are interested in becoming a freelance writer, look into writing for companies that sell content to website owners, freelance bidding sites where you can work directly with the site owner, or contact people directly to start writing for them.
Virtual Assistant
For any work at home parent that excels at organization, there is no better position than a virtual assistant. It is hard to say exactly what a virtual assistant does, because one can provide technical or administrative support to a business. As a VA, you may be answering customer emails, providing internet research, maintaining a website, or contacting clients.
Starting a career as a virtual assistant can be tough. Companies like oDesk list several jobs and can be a good way to gain experience. The best jobs often come when you become an expert in a niche and network with other virtual assistants and prospective companies.
Start a Website
The other jobs listed are ideal for parents who want a steady paycheck when working from home. Starting your own website or blog can be a great way to make money, but it isn't stable or guaranteed and should not be used if you need to pay the bills. If you are looking for extra money to get out of debt, put towards your retirement, or splurge on fun things like vacations, starting your own website is a good choice. Other than $10 a year for a domain name and $10 a month for hosting, there are no costs to getting started.
If you are starting a website, you can monetize it with advertising such as the Google AdSense program or an affiliate program such as Amazon Associates. To get started, pick a topic that you are interested in and begin writing. Talking with other website owners can help you learn.
Get Crafty
If you are creative, you can put your talents to work and get paid. Few people will be able to make a full-time living by selling handmade goods, but it is possible for a work at home parent to make some extra income doing this.
To get started, take a look around Etsy. This is a site that lets people sell handmade or vintage products. If you are able to supply in-demand products to a buying niche, you'll be able to have a successful store on Etsy. Of course, you don't have to be limited to selling on this specific platform, but it is a good place to start.
For a lot of parents, one income isn't enough to pay all of the bills. At the same time, daycare costs can be prohibitive. By working as an independent contractor for your own home office, you'll be able to help support your family while still being there if the kids need you.
